Real Time Meat Packaging and Labeling Verification

FDA regulations state that all labels for meat and poultry products comply with USDA-FSIS regulations, this includes that they contain product net weight, statement of ingredients, nutrition labeling, allergen alerts, expiration dates, and more. Similarly, the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) mandates that all commercially sold meat products pass stringent labeling requirements. Meat processors not in compliance with these regulations are subject to legal penalties, expensive product recalls, injunctions and even manufacturing shutdowns. PackVIEW is designed to be an entirely self-contained unit and can fit on existing meat inspection and packing stations, there is no complicated set up for the system. PackVIEW uses computer vision as an extra set of eyes to scan and inspect meat and poultry food packaging. This easy to use, two-sided scanning system captures Hi-Resolution images of all products and validates labels against the meat processors primary system of record. Product handlers are notified in real-time if there are any issues with packaging or label prior to processing.

Manual validation of outgoing meat and poultry is prone to error; subjectivity, fatigue, time constraints and environmental factors all play a part in inadequate inspection of packaged goods. Alternatively, Vimaan automates meat and poultry labeling verification using a purpose-built combination of sensors, cameras, proprietary computer vision, and machine learning technology. This ensures a more consistent and reliable form of inspection than an entire team of inspectors. PackVIEW automatically photographs all products and includes these images in a digital photo archive for future research and reconciliation.

PackVIEW is also configurable to support a variety of data sources to validate packages including WMS, ERP, flat files and more.
